Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege Guide
Twelve players, three squads, R.I.G. objectives, and Kalona-scale PvE.
Horde Siege is Gears of War: E-Day’s flagship player-versus-environment mode — twelve players divided into three squads of four, each member selecting one of four classes with a unique tactical ability. Runs layer R.I.G. objectives, Energy management, Secondary Objectives, Invasion Events, and Raven extraction on top of classic wave survival. Difficulty scales with class level across Infantry, Commander, and Allfather tiers. If campaign taught you E-Holes and Feral Locust pressure, Horde Siege stress-tests those instincts under timed goals shared across multiple fireteams.
Read the multiplayer overview for how Horde fits next to Versus, Kalona maps for Golden Quarter beta geography and three launch maps, and progression system for class XP to level 30 and Weapon Parts banking rules. Movement fundamentals live in How to Play: Movement & Cover; E-Hole closure habits from How to Close E-Holes transfer to Invasion Events.
Scale and structure
Unlike four-player campaign co-op, Horde Siege instances host three coordinated squads simultaneously on one battlefield. Each squad fields up to four players with one class per role standard — duplicate Medics only when difficulty demands redundancy.
Open Beta exposes Horde on Golden Quarter during August 6–10 Early Access (pre-order or Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass) and August 13–17 General Open Beta. Full release October 6, 2026 includes three Horde Siege maps with the same core systems. Confirm active windows on the Open Beta schedule and prep parties via the beta checklist.
The four classes
Each class ships with a defined kit and levels independently to 30:
Assault — Sonic Disruptor — Front-line damage dealer with a cover damage boost passive. Assault players entry new zones, stabilize the first seconds of waves, and focus fire on clustered enemies. Pair slide-to-cover chains and Active Reload discipline from the movement guide. Assault is the default pick for players who lead campaign pushes in Campaign Co-op.
Breacher — Adrenaline Injector — Close-range burst specialist who overextends to delete priority targets. Breachers excel at choke denial and aggressive R.I.G. Secure phases. Shell-by-shell reload interrupts matter: fire between breach windows without committing to full reload animations.
Marksman — Pulse Drone — Precision at range with a drone tool for target marking and overwatch. Marksmen handle high-threat targets during Invasion Events and cover closure players during Calibrate or Repair channels. Ideal for players who prefer reticle-near reload timing over shotgun rushes.
Medic — Stim Vaporizer — Sustain and revive throughput. Larger maps increase downed-state travel time; Medics path safely along rear routes and call when Breachers overextend. COG tags drop from downed players — teammates must recover tags to revive, so Medics coordinate pickup routes with Assault aggro.
Class builds and loadout synergy are expanded on the class builds tier page.
Playlists and session length
Horde Siege ships three playlist lengths tuned to available time:
| Playlist | Duration | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Blitz | 15–20 minutes | Daily XP, class leveling, quick extracts |
| Siege | 20–40 minutes | Standard R.I.G. arcs with mid-length waves |
| Horde | 50–60 minutes, 10 waves | Full runs, maximum loot, squad coordination |
Pick Blitz when learning Golden Quarter callouts; commit to Horde length only when all three squads agree on voice comms and extraction discipline.
Difficulty: Infantry, Commander, Allfather
Difficulty tiers scale with class level:
- Infantry — Entry tier for learning R.I.G. types and Energy routes without punishing downtime.
- Commander — Requires leveled kits and coordinated Secondary Objective splits.
- Allfather — Maximum pressure; Invasion Events and wave density assume class-30 competence and Raven extraction planning.
Raise difficulty when Medics report idle time — that signals stable clears, not when Assault players feel bored from raw kills alone.
R.I.G. objectives
R.I.G. nodes anchor each run. Objective types include:
- Secure — Establish control at a node under fire.
- Calibrate — Channel or interact to tune equipment while waves continue.
- Repair — Restore damaged R.I.G. infrastructure before failure timers expire.
- Defend — Hold a zone against escalating spawns.
- Horde — Survive dedicated wave phases tied to the node state.
Assign squads to quadrants before wave one. Failure usually comes from chasing kills on one lane while an unattended R.I.G. objective snowballs elsewhere. Call objective type and compass direction the moment a node activates.
Energy and Supply Caches
Energy fuels class abilities and situational tools. Primary sources are Supply Caches scattered across the map — often contested during Secondary Objectives. Assault and Breacher players should not burn Energy on convenience when Medic Stim Vaporizer or Marksman Pulse Drone windows decide Invasion Events.
Establish cache routes during calm phases between waves. If Energy starves mid-Invasion, fall back to R.I.G. Defend until caches respawn or Secondary Objectives mark bonus pickups.
Secondary Objectives
Secondary Objectives reward squads that split attention wisely — bonus resources, Energy, or time extensions when completed alongside primary R.I.G. goals. One squad should volunteer for secondaries only when primary nodes are stable; abandoning Calibrate channels to chase optional stars loses main objectives faster than skipping secondaries entirely.
Invasion Events: Corpser and Brumak
Invasion Events spawn boss-class threats such as Corpser and Brumak into otherwise standard runs. These events demand:
- Immediate callouts and focus fire from Marksmen
- Assault Sonic Disruptor timing to strip cover or stagger
- Medic readiness for downed players caught in area attacks
- Breacher burst when weak points expose
Campaign experience with large Locust threats helps, but multi-squad coordination is mandatory — one squad alone cannot DPS check a Brumak while R.I.G. timers expire elsewhere.
Extraction, COG tags, and Weapon Parts
Successful runs end with Raven extraction. Until the Raven lifts off:
- Downed players drop COG tags; teammates must retrieve tags to revive.
- Weapon Parts collected during the run only bank on successful extract — dying before extraction wastes your haul.
Play for extract, not kill leaderboard padding. When extraction calls, break Secondary Objectives and rotate to the Raven pad as three squads, not lone heroes.
Multi-squad coordination
| Situation | Caller | Action |
|---|---|---|
| New R.I.G. objective | First visual | Type + direction |
| Invasion Event spawn | Marksman | Boss name + lane |
| Energy low | Squad lead | Route to Supply Cache |
| Extraction called | Any lead | Consolidate fireteams |
| COG tag down | Medic | Suppress + safe pickup path |
Voice beats pings on twelve-player instances. Parties from Bravo Squad co-op nights often outperform random matchmaking because callout vocabulary already matches.
Open Beta vs launch
Golden Quarter is the Open Beta Horde map — use it to learn class kits and R.I.G. flow before launch maps arrive. Beta progress may reset; prioritize mechanics over cosmetic grind unless Microsoft confirms carry-forward on Updates.
At launch, sample all three Horde maps with the same playlist vocabulary. Cross-train Versus on Versus 4v4 Tactics nights to keep aim sharp without burning PvE parties.
